New York City FC present David Villa as their first-ever signing

World Cup winner pens a three-year deal and begins to plan his new life in the Big Apple.

SPAIN’S DAVID VILLA has made a little piece of history as the first player to join Major League Soccer’s new franchise, New York City FC.

NYC — who are owned by Manchester City and the New York Yankees — will play their inaugural season in 2015 when MLS expands to 21 teams.

Villa, who will wear his trademark number seven, has signed a three-year deal.

“It’s a real honour that the people who have formed the club have focused their attention on me,” he said.

“I’m keen to do the best I can, take on board that extra responsibility and prove my worth by repaying the confidence they have shown in me.”

Villa, 32, could be joined in the Big Apple by England midfielder Frank Lampard who has been linked with a move to New York when his Chelsea contract expires at the end of this month.
