The 7 potential successors to David Moyes at Old Trafford

Who’s next to try to fill Fergie’s shoes?

DAVID MOYES IS facing the sack at Old Trafford, according to widespread reports today.

With Alex Ferguson handpicking his replacement 12 months ago, Manchester United chief executive Edward Woodward and the Glazers will now have to identify the right man for  the job themselves.

So who’s in the running?

Jurgen Klopp

The Dortmund manager has the personality and vision required to take on one of the biggest jobs in the game. The 46-year-old German has experience winning titles having brought Borussia to the Bundesliga crown twice in recent years. Building one of the most exciting teams in Europe, Klopp brought his young side to last season’s Champions League final.

Odds: 6/1

Louis van Gaal

The vastly experienced Dutch coach was recently reported to have met one of the Glazers in recent weeks. The former Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax boss will lead the Netherlands to the World Cup in Brazil this summer before his contract ends.

Odds: 10-3

Alex Ferguson

The prospect of Fergie returning to the dugout after a season out is a tantalising one.

Ryan Giggs

The club’s most decorated player, a Manchester United legend and possibly the man in possession of the job when the decision is made. The winger is expected to retire at the end of the season and may be asked to take over as caretaker if Moyes goes before the end of the season.

Odds: 4-1

Jose Mourinho

The Special one shed hot, salty tears — according to Diego Torres’ new book — when he was passed over in favour of Moyes last year. He’s struck a sometimes disinterested, sometimes unhappy figure at Stamford Bridge in the intervening season.

Odds: 33/1

Diego Simeone

The hipsters choice, perhaps. The Argentine has transformed Atletico Madrid into Champions League semi-finalists and La Liga title chasers.

Odds: 16/1

Roy Keane

Well this would be fun, at least. The Corkman is a former club captain who went on to manage Sunderland and Ipswich. He’s currently occupied with his job as assistant to Ireland manager Martin O’Neill as well as being an ITV pundit.

Odds: 66/1
