David Meyler in danger of missing FA Cup Final if banned for this Januzaj 'stamp'

FA could take retrospective action that would rule Irish international out of Wembley showdown.

IRELAND MIDFIELDER DAVID Meyler could face a three-match ban and miss the FA Cup Final if he is charged with stamping on Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj.

Referee Craig Pawson took no action following the incident in the final minute of Hull’s 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford last night.

But the FA could take retrospective action when they examine the video footage that shows Meyler stepping on the young Belgian’s left leg after he had hooked the ball away.

Fulham’s Sasha Riether was banned for three matches earlier this season for a ‘stamping’ incident involving Januzaj.

If Meyler is hit with the same punishment, he would miss Hull’s last Premier League game against Everton as well as their historic first FA Cup Final appearance against Arsenal on 17 May and the first domestic game of next season.

Interim United boss Ryan Giggs blasted the officials afterwards for failing to protect Januzaj, 19.

“It’s a joke,” Giggs said. “I didn’t see the incident, but I have seen his leg.

“It is the second time it has happened to him this season and it’s not great to see. It’s terrible, his leg.

“He needs protecting, he is a brilliant player, he is exciting and the authorities need to stamp down on it.”
