DAVID MEYLER MAY be enjoying his best season in professional football but the Hull City midfielder still has goals to meet for both club and country before it’s out.
The 24-year-old has made 36 appearances in all competitions for the Tigers, who are on their way to securing Premier League safety in their first season back in the top flight.
Meyler has also played an integral role in the club’s historic run to a first ever FA Cup final — where they will face Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on 17 May.
A week after the final, Ireland begin a series of summer friendlies against Turkey in Dublin and having only managed five senior caps to-date, staking a claim in the international set-up is Meyler’s goal ahead of the start of the Euro 2016 qualifiers in September.

“I’ve got five caps for Ireland but I haven’t really played any international football so these four games coming up are a great opportunity, not just for me but for everyone that is involved,” Meyler said at the launch of the eFlow Summer Soccer Schools yesterday.
“Hopefully I can show them what I’m about so that’s what my aim is.”
It is all a far cry from a couple of years ago when, after joining Sunderland from Cork City and breaking into the first team, he suffered two cruciate knee ligament injuries and spent over a year on the sidelines.
In 2012, former Black Cats boss Steve Bruce brought him to Hull, initially on loan, and Meyler repaid his faith by helping the club earn promotion from the Championship.
“It’s just great to play regular football,” he said.
I’ve had my setbacks but to come and play 64 games in 17 months is a lot of football considering we have a three or four month break in the summer.
“It has been fantastic. I’ve got the manager to thank because he brought me to Hull and gave a great opportunity. Last year we got promoted and we’re on the right road now to have another terrific season so please God we do.”

Hull have struggled to find the back of the net at times this year and January saw them bring in a new strike partnership in the shape of Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic.
And with four goals to his name so far (including one in the FA Cup semi-final win over Sheffield United), Meyler is hoping to add a couple more in the remaining fixtures.
"I’ve got four this season and am our joint second top goalscorer," he added. "I scored five last year and said I wanted to get more than that this season so have five games to get two and am quite confident I can."
