DAVID JOYCE SECURED his third successive European Union Elite Championships gold medal in Sofia today.
The St Michael’s Athy lightweight defeated Georgia’s Otar Eranosyan in a unanimous decision on a historic day for Irish boxing.
However, there was no joy for Darren O’Neill and Michael O’Reilly who lost out in split decisions against Italy’s Valentino Manfredonia and France’s Christian Ossomo in the light-heavy and middleweight finals respectively.
Overall, Ireland’s nine-man squad take home one gold, two silvers and one bronze from the event.
