David Forde is playing the waiting game with his Millwall future

“It’s been a fantastic club and one I hold dear but if it’s not to be I might have to move on.”

IRELAND NUMBER ONE David Forde is ready to leave Millwall if their dismal prospects don’t improve.

The Galway stopper is out of contract at the end of the season and his club future is still up in the air.

Millwall have offered him an extension but with the Lions teetering just above the Championship relegation zone, he hasn’t agreed any new deal yet.

“At the moment it’s a bit hard with the position we’re in,” Forde said yesterday.

“I’ll just have to wait and see what happens over the next few weeks and months.

“It certainly would encourage me [to stay if they stayed up] because under someone like Ian Holloway and the direction he has given, the club do want to get to the Premier League and that’s an ambition of mine.

“It’s been a fantastic club and one I hold dear but if it’s not to be, I might have to move on.

“We’ll have to cross that bridge when it comes.”

Millwall have only won six times in the league this season and although Forde has shipped the bulk of their 60 goals conceded, he’s not letting that club form affect his confidence.

“I’m getting plenty of work anyway so that’s a bonus!

“At the end of the day, I know football is a team sport but you’ve got to focus on your individual performances as well. All you can do is maintain your personal performances and that is what I have managed to do and bring in consistency to my game.

“I can’t do anymore and hopefully that’s good enough for the manager.”
