Dave Whelan is in trouble with the FA for the controversial remarks he made last week

Whelan attempted to defend Malky Mackay… but it all went south from there.

THE FA HAVE decided to charge Wigan chairman Dave Whelan for alleged racist comments he made last week in a newspaper.

In an interview with The Guardian, Whelan defended his appointment of Malkay Mackay, who was previously alleged to have made anti-semitic remarks via a series of mobile phone text messages and in the same interview said that jewish people ‘love money’.

“It is alleged the Wigan Athletic chairman breached FA Rule E3 in that his comments were abusive and/or insulting and/or constitute improper conduct and/or bring the game into disrepute,” The FA said in a statement.

“It is further alleged that this is an ‘Aggravated Breach’ as defined by FA Rule E3 as it included a reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or nationality and/or religion or belief. ”

Whelan has until 6pm on 5 December 2014 to respond to the charge.
