Dave Kearney contract options still 'up in the air'

The Leinster wing is another international who has yet to commit his future to his native province.

LEINSTER WING DAVE Kearney says he has still made no decision on where he would prefer to play his rugby next season.

The Louthman, who won his first two international caps in November, signed his current two-year deal with his home province in 2012 and that contract is set to expire this summer.

The 24-year-old insists that he has had no offers from the increasingly wealthy Top 14 clubs, but resisted the urge to identify Leinster as the team he would ideally line out for next season.

“I’m having a chat with a few people and we’re weighing everything up,” Kearney said after Leinster trained at the RDS today.

“I’m looking at all my options and hopefully we can get an answer quick and sort things out.”

While the spotlight has been dominated by speculation linking both Jamie Heaslip and Sean O’Brien with Toulon, the younger Kearney brother has managed to largely fly under the radar. However, he insists that is purely down to the high profile of the two Lions back rows rather than a conscious attempt to keep his dealings under wraps.

“Like the other two lads I’m still trying to figure out what I’m going to do. It is still ongoing so it’s still up in the air, but hopefully it will be resolved soon.”

He added: “Just the way things have panned out, obviously Sean and Jamie are more high profile, their contract negotiations have hit all the headlines, but it is not something I have purposefully done.

“I suppose every player thinks about it at some stage in their career. It is always an inviting option to go over and do something different, but I’m not putting any more thought into it than I am in staying here.”
