Goal machine Daryl Murphy on target for Ipswich again. That's 14 league goals this season - equal to what he scored in 5 years at Sunderland
The 31-year-old striker credited manager Mick McCarthy with his improvement in form in an interview last October, pointing to the fact that he was happy to play Murphy in his favoured forward role rather than on the wing, where he has often been deployed.
“When the gaffer came in on the first day, he told me he was going to play me as a striker, and he didn’t see me as a left midfielder, so that in itself gave me a little boost,” he said.
“I knew I’d be playing in my preferred role, and thankfully I’ve rewarded him with a few goals.”
