GIF: Irish jockey Daryl Jacob injured as Port Melon crashes through Cheltenham railing

The incident took the jockey out of the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.

IRISH-BORN JOCKEY Daryl Jacob did not make the start line of today’s Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Jacob’s mount, Port Melon, appeared spooked by something in the lead-up to the race and careered into and through a guard rail sending Jacob tumbling onto the concrete below.

There is no definitive news of the Paul Nicholls’ gelding at this time, but it did rise after the fall and is apparently unscathed.

Channel 4 report that Jacob is being treated for unspecified ‘leg injuries’ after leaving the scene in an ambulance for Cheltenham hospital.

Here’s the incident.
