Keaney stood on Lynch's back but the Central Hearings Committee found that he had not deliberately stamped on the Limerick man.

Sutcliffe blasts RTÉ panel for landing Conal Keaney in stamp trouble

“It was a joke that it came up in the first place,” says Sutcliffe as Dubs prepare for Cork semi.

DANNY SUTCLIFFE HAS hit out at the trial by TV that landed Dublin team-mate Conal Keaney in disciplinary trouble.

Keaney was cleared this week of allegedly stamping on Limerick’s Cian Lynch during the Allianz National Hurling League quarter-final.

Referee Diarmuid Kirwan took no action at the time but after the incident was replayed on RTÉ League Sunday, the Central Competitions Control Committee retrospectively proposed a two-match ban which has since been thrown out.

“It was a joke that it came up in the first place — the Sunday Game at him, the Sunday Game crew at him again,” Sutcliffe argued.

“It would be an awful time for him to lose out at this time of year. If it was two games, like if Sunday doesn’t go well, that’s his Championship game so that’s an awful time of the year [to get a ban].

Luckily they did the right thing which was to overrule it. It’s gone now.

Paddy O'Paddy / YouTube

Keaney has been transformed from wing-forward to wing-back under new boss Ger Cunningham, and Sutcliffe believes his more senior team-mate is enjoying his new surroundings.

“Obviously he mightn’t play there for us but he’s used to it. It’s the exact same thing, winning high balls above his opponent, and he’s enjoying it back there.

I suppose he’s a man to turn to if things aren’t going well. If you aim at him, [puck outs] will always go to him.

“He’s given us so much from wing-back now. I’m behind him, I’m on his wing, and puck outs are normally coming deep and I can get the break, but he’s catching so much of them. He’s enjoying it.”

As clear as day there was nowhere else he could land. His foot got clipped by Lynch’s as he went which caused him to lose his balance.

To my eye it looks like Sutcliffes right foot tangled with Lynches left foot as he tried to jump over him. Accidental, but certainly worth another look.

Regardless of whether it was intentional or not it did merit another look. He got off and should be just left at that. Dont really see what Sutcliffes problem is.

Keaney catches him no doubt but where else is his right leg meant to land?? A clumsy fall plain and simple and good to see the decision makers seeing sense in this instance

An accident id say. His momentum carried him through. At speed he was going he only had split second to re adjust. Powerful hurler and I don’t think he a dirty player. Big difference between a tough hard player and a dirty one

Cource he stamped on him, but in this case I don’t think he meant it, look at it again and find somewhere else he could have put his foot down, he was tumbling forward, ’twas just instinct, no malice, unlike Kieran Duff kicking a prone player in the face, tizz in them , but innocent on this occasion. #longmemoriesdownwesht.

So if he’d been looking up to the sky you’d think otherwise? I don’t know about you but if I’d lost my balance and was about to land on a person below me and could do nothing about it I’d be looking down also thinking ‘sh*t how am I going to avoid this ‘.

I’m sure the force came from the fact he was going at speed when it happened.

Glad you weren’t the one deciding the outcome on this ‘well he was looking down, definitely guilty’.

Of course he was looking at what he was doing. He knew he was about to land on him and could do nothing about it. I know anytime I’ve fallen i tend to look down, not up. Kind of makes sense in my eyes.

It’s not about looking up or down! It’s about him looking at lynchs back and putting force into a right foot stamp! He didn’t just “land” on his back

He didn’t land! His left foot doesn’t touch his body! He stamps his right foot into his back! Could of easily widened his stance and went to the side of his back! I have seen it down through the years in sports, players going at pace over other players on the ground! Guess what? They don’t stamp on them! If they do it’s intentional! He got away because it’s early in season, lynch had no serious injury plus they didn’t want him missing a knockout league semi

how he got away with that is beyond me,you can be sure if it was the other way around the ban would have stood. Anyone that played GAA or soccer would tell you looking at that video that he clearly meant that stamp! Your reaction is too avoid the player and he clearly could have put his leg further to the right to miss him,he would have fallen but the limerick player wouldnt have eight holes in his back! disgrace!!

Shane please advise how you can change the speed /force you’re going at in a split second? Also advise when you’re clipped by another players foot how you’re suppose to control where you land – again in a split second? You’ve clearly been through this exact situation before right? Since you’re sure he could have landed somewhere else?

Ah I was waiting for that. I don’t defend players because they’re Dubs. I disagreed on this very site about Bastic having his black card overturned because he clearly dragged down the Kerry player. If a player in the wrong I can admit that regardless of what county they’re from – I’ve done it numerous times here . Afraid you’re going to have to bin that old chestnut this time Shane, it’s not relevant to me.
