Garcia, left, won 116-112 on all three cards. Mark J. Terrill

Danny Garcia wins WBC welterweight title - now is a rematch against Amir Khan next?

Khan next in line as Garcia scores unanimous points win.

AMIR KHAN WATCHED from ringside as the undefeated Danny Garcia beat Robert Guerrero to win the WBC welterweight title last night.

Garcia recorded a unanimous points victory โ€” 116-112 on all three cards โ€”  to take his record to 32-0 and claim the belt left vacant following Floyd Mayweatherโ€™s retirement.

โ€œI want to fight the best,โ€ the American said. โ€œDanny Garcia never ducked anybody.

โ€œIโ€™m back where I belong. I am now a two-division world champion.โ€

Britainโ€™s Khan is the mandatory WBC challenger, and may get his chance to make amends against Garcia who knocked him out in four rounds when they met at light-welterweight back in 2012.

But Khan could skip the grudge match and instead opt for a summer blockbuster against IBF champion Kell Brook โ€” provided the Sheffield native comes through his 26 March title defence against Kevin Bizier as expected.

Khan has done nothing of note since Garcia knocked him out, no way he deserves a rematch. Typical hype fighter!

I think Garcia is just too good for Khan, heโ€™s one of the best out there

Garcia has been riding his luck for a while. Many observers, myself included, thought Garcia lost to Herrera and Peterson. Garcia is a limited fighter.

Khan was beating Garcia comfortably before that mental left hook landed. Khan has improved greatly as a fighter since then, while Garcia has been gifted a few decisions (Herrera and Peterson). Khanโ€™s punch resistance has improved but there isnโ€™t a welter around that can take Garciaโ€™s hook if thrown perfectly. Iโ€™d give Khan more of a chance in the rematch tbh. He has beaten some decent welters recently while Garcia has been feeding on past prime fighters. 50/50 fight if Iโ€™m honest. I hope it happens.

Guerrero took Garciaโ€™s best shots last night and Guerrero is a blown up welterweight. Donโ€™t think Garcia has carried his power up to welterweight. Garcia has cherry picked his opponents since Khan, with Matthysse being the notable exception. Once Garcia fights the best welterweights I think he will be exposed as a very limited boxer.

If khan gets his rematch I think he would be more cautious with a lot of running and win by UD with the crowd booing. Personally I donโ€™t like him or the way he cherry picks his fighters waiting for that one big payday. He hasnโ€™t earned a rematch. Garcia vs brook is a much better fight in my opinion for lots of different reasons.

Khan has absolutely no chin, easy payday for Garcia. Would prefer to see either of them fight kell brook.

F**k a mandatory defense. Real fighters try and unify the division theyโ€™re in.
