FOR THE SECOND day running, Irelandโs Daniel Martin was edged out in a sprint finish at the Vuelta ร Espana.
Martin finished fifth in todayโs fourth stage from Mairena del Alcor to Cordoba, won by Germanyโs John Degenkolb (Team Giant-Shimano).
The result leaves Martin fourth on 32 points in the points classification following his second-place finish on Monday.
Michael Matthews and Degenkolb lead the challenge for the green jersey on 45 points ahead of the raceโs first mountain stage on Thursday.
Australiaโs Matthews (Orica-GreenEdge) also leads the general classification standings by eight seconds after he crossed the line in third today.
Nairo Quintana is second overall with Alejandro Valverde a further seven seconds back in third. Martin is in 20th, 43 seconds behind Matthews.
Happened in a Division 1 football game two weeks ago too. Westmeath v Donegal. Wouldnโt see it in menโs football or hurling. LGFA & CA have questions to answer here.
Surely they could have gotten volunteers to take on duties out of any spectators at the games. Day in day out, people help refereeโs at club games, a very high percentage of which show no bias towards their own team. No brainer.
Time to disband the camogie association โ itโs not fit for purpose. Player welfare and 20ร20 is mere lip service at this stage.
@Rory Debarres: Camogie Association does great work and numbers of girls playing are growing. Ladies sports struggle for resources, Daragh above has mentioned that LGFA div 1 had the same issue a fortnight ago. Camogie have player welfare to the fore and have that approach to dual players for example (not reciprocated unfortunately by the LGFA as demonstrated at the weekend at their Congress). Camogie have introduced brilliant initiatives also for the benefit of its players.
