Dan Martin won today at the Volta a Catalunya and is looking good again

Martin leads the GC by six seconds from Alberto Contador.

IRELAND’S DAN MARTIN leads the Volta a Catalunya after he pulled away from Alberto Contador on the final climb of today’s third stage.

Martin was first to the line in La Molina, pipping Contador by two seconds in the summit finish.

The result sees him take a six-second lead in the general classification ahead of Contador with France’s Romain Bardet, third in today’s stage, also in third place overall.

The race continues tomorrow with another 172-kilometre mountain stage from Bagà to Port Ainé.

Martin will again be a strong contender having won a finish there in 2013 — the year in which he won the race outright.
