Rico leaves after admitting Drogheda are experiencing “dark and desperate days.”

DAMIEN RICHARDSON HAS stepped down as Drogheda United manager amid ongoing uncertainty about the Louth club’s financial situation.

The Drogheda board confirmed that Richardson, who took charge in July, would not be remaining as manager next season.

Richardson spoke earlier this week about budget cuts at Hunky Dorys Park and said the club was in the midst of “dark and desperate days.”

In a brief statement this evening, he said: “I enjoyed my time at Drogheda tremendously and would have loved to remain as manager had the circumstances been different.

“I wish the club nothing but the best in the future.”
