Dalglish: Liverpool signings were my choice, not Comolli's

Reds’ director of football was shown the door today after a turbulent season at Anfield.

KENNY DALGLISH HAS taken full responsibility for all of Liverpool’s signings during Damien Comolli’s time as director of football at Anfield.

Comolli has left Liverpool after a spell of mixed success in the transfer market and on the pitch since his arrival on Merseyside in November 2010, but the manager insists that all of the club’s signings during that time have been his own choices.

Dalglish was appointed in January 2011, with Comolli promoted to director of football a short time later in March.

“He has been really helpful in every transfer target we’ve gone for,” Dalglish said. ”Everyone who has come into the club since Damien has been here was of my choice.

“Once I made the choice on who I wanted Damien went away and did a fantastic job of bringing them in.”

The 61-year-old insisted that he has had no problems with the Frenchman and was sad to see him leave the club. Comolli said in a club statement that he would be moving back to France for family reasons.

“I had a fantastic working and personal relationship with Damien since he came here,” Dalglish said. ”It is disappointing but I suppose there is not much in football which comes as a surprise.

“It is sad to see anyone leave the football club and he goes with my best wishes and hopefully it is not long before we meet again. We wish him well with everything that he does.”
