ALAN CURBISHLEY IS the No1 candidate for the vacant managerial role at Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The former Charlton Athletic and West Ham boss is top of owner Steve Morgan’s wishlist, which is believed to include Neil Warnock and Steve Bruce, and will be interviewed for the job today.
Wolves sacked Mick McCarthy after six years in the job in the aftermath of their Black Country derby defeat to West Brom on the weekend and lie 18th in the Premier League table with 21 points from 25 games this season.
54-year-old Curbishley enjoyed a successful career at Charlton before spending three years at Upton Park, where he dramatically kept the Hammers up on the last day of the 06/07 season with a little help from Carlos Tevez, who scored the only goal in the win over Manchester United.

If he does get the job, a similar ‘great escape’ will be needed to turn around the fortunes of Wolves, who have just three wins in their last 20 games.
He (Curbishley) has got a great track record, he’s been there and done that before and he’s exactly the calibre of person that we’re looking for,” Goal.com report Morgan as saying.
“There are lots of talented people around in and out of jobs that could potentially do jobs like this. But I don’t think it’s a job for a novice,” added Jez Moxey, the club’s chief executive.
