OUTSPOKEN SOCCER PUNDIT Eamon Dunphy is the latest public figure to rule himself out of the running for the Irish presidency, the Irish Daily Star reports (print edition).
Dunphy, whose abrasive punditry style has made him one of Irish sport’s most divisive figures, was one of a number of “celebrity” names tentatively linked with an Áras bid in recent days.
But, speaking to Dave Fanning on 2FM yesterday, the 66-year-old laughed off the suggestion, saying that he would rather spend the next seven years in Mountjoy Prison than serve as president.
At least we won’t have to endure countless “he’s a good president, not a great president” quips between now and 2018.
