Breen voted World Rally Driver of the Year

The Waterford native, 22, clinched his second world rally title earlier this month.

DOUBLE WORLD CHAMPION Craig Breen has been voted WRC World Rally Driver of the Year.

Waterford’s Breen, 22, topped a public poll carried out on WRC.com with 39% of the vote, pipping Norway’s Mads Ostberg who finished second with 38%.

Sebastien Loeb, who clinched his ninth World Rally title in 2012, came third with 8%.

The award rounds off a turbulent season for Breen who cliniched the Super 2000 World Rally Championship with a win at the Rally de Espana two weeks ago.

In June, Breen’s co-driver and best friend Gareth Roberts was killed when the two were involved in a crash at the Targa Florio rally in Sicily.
