Count me out - Rio rejects England captain talk

Ferdinand took over the first time around, when John Terry lost the captaincy two years ago.

MANCHESTER UNITED DEFENDER Rio Ferdinand has ruled himself out of the running to be named as John Terry’s replacement as England captain.

Terry was stripped of the armband for the second time this morning.

Ferdinand took over the first time around, when Terry lost the captaincy two years ago when details of his extra-marital relationship with Wayne Bridge’s former partner emerged.

Terry was stripped of the armband earlier by the FA until after his 9 July court case where he is accused of racially abusing Ferdinand’s brother Anton.

Rio Ferdinand took to Twitter in the wake of the FA’s decision, to nip any speculation in the bud: “I don’t want to be England captain after the last episode, just want to concentrate on playin for utd&if I make the squad then as ever I’ll be delighted.”
