Kingston masterminded Cork’s resurgence in 2017 after his young side won their first Munster senior hurling championship in three years as they beat Tipperary, Waterford and Clare en route to a 53rd provincial crown.
Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final proved a hurdle too far as they lost by 11 points to Waterford at Croke Park, but Cork — not even considered as contenders for the Liam MacCarthy Cup at the start of the year — made huge strides under Kingston.
