GLEN ROVERS SCORED an impressive 2-30 as they kicked off the defence of their Cork senior hurling title against Bride Rovers on Saturday night.
Back-to-back champions in 2015 and 2016, the Glen will face rivals Sarsfields in the next round but will do so confident that their key men were on song in a 2-30 to 2-14 win.
The Glen’s goals came courtesy of David Busteed and Mark Dooley, one in either half, while Patrick Horgan finished with 0-10.
Saturday’s early game in Páirc Uí Rinn produced a shock as Ballymartle beat St Finbarr’s 1-17 to 0-11, while Imokilly were comfortable 2-26 to 0-12 winners against Bishopstown.
In Limerick, 2016 All-Ireland champions Na Piarsaigh put new boys Cappamore to the sword with a 17-point win, 2-23 to 0-12, while Dean Coleman’s goal was just enough to edge Doon past Ahane, 1-12 to 0-11.
South Liberties were one-point winners over Bruff, 0-19 to 0-18.

Best of luck to him
Long Cox. An enviable strike force.
@Gareth Keenan: ‘Long Cox will hurt you in the box’ best flag at the Euros.
@murt de murty: Those flags at Euro 2012 were cringe. Banter monkeys.
@Brian Murphy: people saying cringe is cringe
@Alan Roddy: Brilliant stuff.
Absolutely best of luck to the lad and well done on a successful career but what in the name of God did Trap think he was doing with him in the Euros. Like picking a player in Champ Manager whilst boll!xed drunk and you’re in a sh!t run of form hoping for a miracle.
