AVONDHU HAVE PROGRESSED to the semi-finals of the Cork senior football championship after seeing off the challenge of Duhallow.
The North Cork divisional side outfit were 2-15 to 2-9 winners against the side who represent the North-West of the county in their quarter-final this evening at Mourneabbey.
Avondhu, who have Cork senior players James Loughrey, Tom Clancy and Colm O’Neill in their ranks, led by 1-8 to 0-6 at the break, before surging ahead after the restart.
Duhallow, for whom Cork stars Donnacha O’Connor and Aidan Walsh were involved, found themselves trailing by 2-15 to 0-9 entering the closing stages, but two goals in additional time made the scoreline look more respectable.

Avondhu are now one win away from reaching their first Cork SFC final in 55 years — their only triumph came back in 1961. They’ll face Carbery Rangers in the semi-finals.
On the other side of the draw, reigning champions Nemo Rangers will face the winners of Saturday’s fourth quarter-final between Ballincollig and last season’s runners-up Castlehaven.
