CIT are into the Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-finals after a 15-point win against GMIT.

Cork IT 3-15

GMIT 1-6

CORK IT EASED into the Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-finals thanks to a masterful second-half display against GMIT in a windswept Carnmore.

Tipperary inter-county star John O’Dwyer fired a goal in each half, while Michael O’Sullivan also hit the net for Pat Mulcahy’s side, who were never troubled by their hosts.

After winning the toss, GMIT elected to play with the ferocious wind at the backs form the off,, but it was CIT who got off to the sharper start with points from O’Dwyer, Jamie Coughlan and David Drake.

In fact GMIT could have performed far better in the first-half and a tally of ten wides gave their hopes of reaching the last eight little assistance.

It took them until the 18th minute to register their first score – a fine point from Padraig Flanagan – but two goals in a minute from O’Dwyer and O’Sullivan knocked them back on their heels.

Shane Moloney did find the net from a long range free to leave it 2-5 to 1-3 at the break, but with the wind at their backs, CIT easily picked off their scores through Coughlan, O’Dwyer and O’Sullivan and cruised into the quarter-finals.
