CORK CITY EARNED a historic win in the Uefa Youth League at Turner’s Cross tonight.

Stephen Bermingham’s U19 side qualified for the second round of the competition, as they saw off Finland’s HJK Helsinki 1-0.

Striker Aaron Drinan made no mistake in finding the bottom corner as he put his side one up thanks to a 48th minute penalty.

Cork were unlucky not to take the lead earlier in the game, as they dominated the first half in front of a 1287 strong home crowd.

HJK looked certain to level the game at stages throughout the second half but David Coffee put on a spectacular display between the posts to cement his side’s victory.

The Leesiders now progress to face Italian giants Roma in the next round.

The SSE Airtricity League U19 champions are Ireland’s first representative in Europe’s elite youth competition.
