New Zealander bludgeons quickest ever one-day century in 36 balls

Corey Anderson took no pity on a hapless West Indies attack in the picturesque setting of Queenstown.

COREY ANDERSON BLASTED his Kiwi way into the record books today as he struck the fastest ever one-day international century.

The New Zealander needed just 36 balls to reach the milestone during his country’s 159 run win over the West Indies in Queenstown. Anderson thumped 14 sixes in all and eventually finished on 131 not out.

Playing partner Jesse Ryder hit the sixth fastest century of all time but, reaching three figures after 46 balls, his rate looked pedestrian when compared to Anderson. The previous world record was held by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, who recorded a century after facing 37 balls.

New Zealand finished their rain-shortened [21 overs a side] innings on 283-4 while the Windies reply reached a paltry 124-5. The series is now all square at 1-1 with two matches to play.
