Robin Copeland given two-week ban for stamp on Liam Williams

The Welsh fullback was also suspended for tackling Alex Cuthbert in the air.

FUTURE MUNSTER BACK row Robin Copeland was today handed a two-week suspension at a disciplinary hearing in Dublin.

The player his boot connected with, Liam Williams, was also given the same ban at a separate hearing.

Both players given red cards during Sunday’s all Welsh clash between Cardiff Blues and Llanelli Scarlets.

Though Williams had initially received just a yellow for tackling Alex Cuthbert in the air, the disciplinary panel deemed it worthy of a red card under Law 10.4 (e) akin to that given to  Ulster’s Jared Payne in the Heineken Cup quarter-finals

Robin Copeland was given a straight red card for stamping on Williams and his punishment comes under Law 10.4 (b).

The suspension for both players will run until midnight on Sunday May 4, meaning they will miss only one round of Pro12 fixtures  (Cardiff’s trip to Connacht and Llanelli’s home tie with the Dragons). The pair’s next opportunity to play will once again pit them against one another as Scarlets host Cardiff on May 10.

Should be interesting.

Law 10.4 (b) Stamping or trampling. A player must not stamp or trample on an opponent.

Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous tackling. A player must not tackle an opponent whose feet are off the ground.
