And there was an Irish contingent on the Geelong side too.

MEATH NATIVE Conor Nash made his AFL debut at the MCG this morning as his Hawthorns side edged out Geelong.

The Hawks rallied after a scoreless first term to win thanks to a late Jaeger O’Meara goal.

Fellow Irish players Zach Tuohy and Mark O’Connor featured for Geelong.

“I’m spent,” he admitted afterwards. “It was nuts, 60,000 people I think it was, you’re running after the ball and you can hardly hear your teammates.

“I’m extremely tired now but that was something special.”

Nash signed for the Melbourne club in 2016. He was informed he’d be making his debut during a team meeting this week:

The win cements the Hawks’ position in third in the stnadings with Geelong now outside the top eight.
