Get booking! Conor McGregor's title fight with Jose Aldo will be on 11 July

The pair are set to face off in Las Vegas at the main event of UFC 189.

A DATE HAS been announced for Conor McGregor’s UFC title fight with featherweight champion Jose Aldo tonight.

The out-spoken Dubliner, who has shot up the rankings with five successive UFC wins since debuting in April 2013, was promised a bout with the Brazilian by the promotion’s president Dana White provided he claimed victory over Dennis Siver in Boston two weeks ago.

McGregor did so in devastating fashion with a second round TKO to earn performance of the night.

Talk that one of Dublin’s outdoors stadiums, Croke Park or the Aviva Stadium, would host the fight were put to bed by White earlier this month, when he confirmed it would take place in Las Vegas.

A date in May had been suggested but, with increased speculation that boxing superstars Floyd Mayweather Junior and Manny Pacquiao will finally get it on in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand on 2 May, Aldo v McGregor has been pencilled in for 11 July at the famous Nevada venue.

As the main event of UFC 189, it is expected to attract huge attention from MMA fans in Ireland and around the world.

“We have the fight date for McGregor-Aldo, the biggest fight of the year,” McGregor said tonight. “Saturday, 11July, International Fight Week. I’m gonna rip that Brazilian’s head off.”

“I am calm, composed and I am ruthless. This is just another man in my way.”
