UFC COMMENTATOR JOE Rogan is not a fan of the prize handed to Conor McGregor after his UFC 189 win over Chad Mendes in July.
“Belts are bullshit. Who cares,” Rogan says on his latest Fight Companion podcast with McGregor’s shiny new accessory taking the brunt of criticism because it was freshly created for the winner of the UFC 189 event after Jose Aldo (and his own Featherweight belt) pulled out through injury.
“Let’s be honest. McGregor has an illegitimate belt. It’s a made up belt. We call it the ‘interim’ belt but Aldo defended his title a year ago,” continued the 48 year-old, but he appeared to stop short of criticising his employers for the introduction of the prize.
Stripping a guy because he doesn’t— because he can’t get through a camp without getting injured is a part of MMA. It’s always been a part of MMA. But, because of the marketing, because of the hype behind it, because of the HUGE event, the enormity, the economics of the event, they decide to make (McGregor v Mendes) an interim fight. He’s got a title. Aldo’s got a title. They both have titles. So they’re fighting for the undisputed title.”
“Wouldn’t it be better if they just fought? We know how big Conor is. We know how big Aldo is. Let’s go fight, guys.”

Eh, Joe… they actually are going to fight. It’s called UFC 194 and it’s kind of a big deal.
