Watch: Hourihane continues to strengthen Ireland claims with stunning free-kick

Barnsley earned all three points in a thrilling derby against Leeds United.

CORKMAN CONOR HOURIHANE has shown once again tonight why he is rated as one of the best performers in the Championship this season, by scoring a sensational free-kick in Barnsley’s victory over Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

The Barnsley captain, who is out of contract in the summer, has been linked with several clubs in recent weeks, with this stunning finish likely to intensify interest in the 25-year-old midfielder.

The Tykes scored three goals in nine minutes after Chris Wood opened the scoring for the visitors, with Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Kent replying for Barnsley, before Hourihane’s headline-grabbing strike.

Wood netted a late penalty to give Garry Monk’s side hope, but Barnsley held on to earn all three points to leave them just four points behind Sheffield Wednesday, who sit in the final play-off spot, with Leeds in fourth.

Hourihane, who has six goals and a league-best 11 assists this season, has yet to earn a full cap for the senior international side.
