Conor Gormley free for Mayo clash after proposed ban overturned

The Tyrone centre-back was in line to receive a one-match ban following a clash with Monaghan’s Dessie Mone.

TYRONE’S CONOR GORMLEY is free to play in the All-Ireland semi-final after his proposed ban was overturned on appeal.

The Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) moved on Tuesday to have Gormley suspended for one match after reviewing footage of his clash with Monaghan’s Dessie Mone.

But the Tyrone County Board confirmed tonight that the ban has been overturned by the Central Hearings Committee (CHC), leaving Gormley free for the game against Mayo on 25 August.

Gormley and Mone were involved in a scuffle shortly before half-time in the All-Ireland quarter-final but referee Cormac Reilly took no action against either player at the time.

Tonight’s news will come as a huge boost for Mickey Harte’s men, though they are set to be without Martin Penrose who was shown a straight red card for his part in the same incident. Penrose is understood to be appealing his own one-match ban.
