Injury update: Swift out of Connacht's European openers, Ulster coy on Andy Trimble

Ulster to wait for further consultation before making a call on Trimble’s toe injury.

RECORD CAPS HOLDER Michael Swift will miss the start of Connacht’s European adventure.

The veteran second row has been ruled out for “at least three weeks” with a lower leg ligament injury he picked up in training last week.

It means Swift will not be available on Saturday when Connacht host La Rochelle in the opening round of the new Challenge Cup, and will also miss the trip to face Exeter Chiefs on 25 October.

Academy hooker Shane Delahunt (ankle sprain) is a doubt for this weekend and a decision will be made on his availability later in the week.

There was better news concerning Jason Harris-Wright who is fit again following shoulder reconstruction surgery and could make his season debut.

Meanwhile Ulster are awaiting further consultation before making a call on Andrew Trimble’s fitness.

The winger underwent scans today after he suffered a toe injury against Glasgow Warriors on Saturday. The province will issue an update later in the week.

Ulster begin their Champions Cup campaign against Leicester in Welford Road on Saturday evening.
