Fresh concerns for injury-ravaged Connacht

Eric Elwood has to deal with several absentees ahead of Saturday’s fixture with Pro12 champions Ospreys.

CONNACHT’S INJURY LIST has been added to ahead of their RaboDirect Pro 12 meeting with Ospreys this weekend.

After Saturday’s physical encounter with Harlequins, the province have announced several new absentees for their next fixture.

Backs Robbie Henshaw, Tiernan O’Halloran, Mata Fifita and centre pairing Eoin Griffin and Dave McSharry all suffered knocks against Quins, but South African centre Danie Poolman will train with the squad tomorrow after treatment on a hamstring.

With Andrew Browne, Gavin Duffy, Matt Healy, Mark McCrea, Paul O’Donohue, Ethienne Reynecke and Kyle Tonetti all still out, head coach Eric Elwood knows they will be up against it when they travel to the Liberty Stadium.

It’s been a busy fortnight with two teams competing in Europe – Heineken and B&I Cup – and with this our ninth consecutive match weekend there is obviously a big demand on our squad and we are looking at some injuries,” Elwood said.

“But it’s back to Rabo duty this week, and we’re very much looking forward to the Ospreys game. Over the years, we’ve had huge physical encounters with the Welsh side and we’ll be expecting the same this weekend.”
