FIFA: No plans to cancel Confederations Cup despite protest in Brazil

Local media reported today that football’s world governing body may call time on the World Cup warm-up tournament.

FIFA HAVE NOT discussed the possibility of cancelling the Confederations Cup despite growing civil unrest in Brazil.

The host country has endured several days of large-scale protests and the competition, a dress rehearsal for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, had been thought to be under threat.

However, a FIFA spokesperson confirmed today that no such action was being considered by the sport’s governing body or the local organising committee (LOC).

“To date, neither FIFA nor the LOC have ever discussed any such possibility,” the official commented. Many Brazilians are angry at high transport costs and perceived corruption in the South American nation. The huge cost involved in hosting the World Cup, as well as the 2016 Olympics, is also the source of some concern.

The situation escalated drastically last night when an 18-year-old man was killed after a car ploughed into a group of protestors in Sao Paulo state.

Shock horror FIFA don’t care about human rights, social issues or anything that would get in the way of them making a quick buck.

At least they have reversed the trend of having world cups in dodgy locations when they awarded it to Russia and Qatar

What a bunch of fools FIFA are. The Confederations Cup is only going ahead at the moment because the Brazilians people are letting it continue. No govt will stop this revolution that’s happening here in Brazil. Its the same are every major city in Europe protesting at the same time. Sepp Blatter mades things worse when he said everyone was uneducated (in Brazil it also means you have no manners) when they booed the president at the opening game. He soon was jeered and told where to go. I hope the people stop the games and shame the Brazilian govt to get the hell out and stop STEALING MONEY AND LINING THEIR OWN POCKETS. because that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day. corrupt politicians

FIFA doesn’t force nations to host tournaments. Blame the people in power in S. Africa, Brazil etc.

What? Did you expect that FIFA would give a toss about how struggling ordinary people feel?

Nothing will be cancelled and no arrangements will be altered.
FIFA have already accepted all the bribes necessary to organise the Confederations and World Cups, if the plans were changed now FIFA could never again accept a bribe in good faith and they’d have to totally change their modus operandi.
