Ronaldo lacing Robbie's boots and the language barrier in Cork - It's Comments of the Week

Did you make the cut?

LAST WEEKEND WAS one that Irish sports fans won’t forget for a long time – Ireland’s World Cup Qualifier win in Vienna, the defeat of Canada in the rugby and McGregor making UFC history in New York.

Of course, there was much more news, both at home and abroad, throughout the week too.

Here’s what you had to say.

That famous win in Vienna on Saturday was summed up perfectly by Kieran Campbell.

James McClean – ya little dancer. Super team performance. 10 pts from 12. Deadly.

Needless to say, Conor McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez in UFC205 last weekend to become the first ever UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously.

Shane McDonnell‘s comment after the fight was well-received by our readers.

Great win. Alvarez looked absolutely petrified to me. How was he champion?

After scoring two goals in his side’s win over Latvia on Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo equaled Robbie Keane and Gerd Muller’s record of 68 international goals.

Augustus Hoop was witty with his reaction.

That’s the problem with these lists – fellas like Muller and Ronaldo hardly good enough to lace Robbie’s boots but they end up sharing 4th place with him.

Frank Lampard this week announced that he was leaving New York City when his contract expires at the end of 2016. John Maguire knows just the place for his next move.

A stint at Dundalk perhaps next year?

On Thursday night, Robbie Keane confirmed that he’s leaving LA Galaxy.

Ger Buckley and EF both have different ideas as to where the Dubliner should go next.

Cork City the obvious choice but the language barrier would probably be too much this late in his career.

I’m sure he will now move to the team he supported as a kid – Shanghai Warriors!

11 time All-Ireland winning manager Brian Cody was ratified as Kilkenny manager again for next year at a county board meeting on Monday.

Paul Crampsie let his sarcasm shine through with this comment.

I’d like to know what he’s done to deserve another year…:-)

In Monday’s sports news round-up, the headline read “Dana praises McGregor, Heaslip try wins award and all today’s sport”. This was, of course, referring to UFC president Dana White. Tweety Mc Tweeter thought otherwise.

I clicked this article thinking it was Dana Rosemary Scallon that praised Conor McGregor, I leave disappointed.

All Blacks’ coach Steve Hansen claimed that his side go into Saturday’s night rematch in the Aviva as “underdogs”.

Jamie Concannon had a right laugh at Hansen playing the underdog card.

If the All Blacks beat the mighty Irish it will be the greatest underdog story since Connacht won the pro 12

Meanwhile, Sean Byrne referred back to a classic sit-com.

Reminds me of that scene from Friends; “You’re over me? But when were you under me?”

Kate Upton took to Twitter to vent her rage during the week, as her fiance Justin Verlander controversially missed out on baseball’s top pitching award.

Joe Bloggs gave us a good laugh with this one.

She is very hot so I’ll agree with her.
