Harry Kane's no John O'Shea in goals: it’s the best comments of the week

We pick out our favourite readers’ remarks from the past seven days.

Paul Harvey suggests an improvement the FAI could make to help develop our young footballers:

My son just started a two year scholarship at Middlesbrough playing Futsal. He studies for a BTEC level 3 Diploma in sport and receives top class coaching. He landed the place after doing a week work experience last year. I can’t tell you how lucky and fortunate we all feel at the opportunity he is getting. If he doesn’t make it as a footballer he will defiantly have a career in sport. His diploma gives him the equivalent of 3 A levels( no need for leaving cert points) There is over 60 clubs in England with Futsal programmes. It would be very easy for the FAI to get this up and running and organise a league.

Good stat by Not Dylan after last Richard Dunne and Steven Caulker put the ball into their own net last Sunday:

QPR have scored more goals for us that Balotelli has.

That’s deep from Shane Doolan

Kicking a spiral is like making love to a beautiful woman. You take a punt, hope for the best, and if it comes off you feel like a pro.

Shane O’Connor thinks that, whatever about his shortcomings as a player, Ireland midfielder Glenn Whelan has always shown heart in the green jersey:

A fractured leg? If any remembers correctly, Glenn Whelan was in a serious amount of pain. He got up, wobbled around and tried shaking it off. The ball came up the field and he put in a tackle which dispossessed a German attacker before going off. Slate him for not being a great player but please admire the man for his heart. In this day and age, soccer players like that are few and far between!

Mick Stafford makes a good point after Harry Kane’s catastrophic goalkeeping cameo for Spurs in the Europa League:

He’s no John O’ Shea…

Dublin’s Paul Flynn earns well-deserved praise from Ian O’Reilly for his fourth consecutive AllStar. He’s the first non-Kerryman to do so:

4 all stars in a row for flynn some achievement

Good U2 knowledge from Rory Dempsey. Larry Mullen is a former Artane Boy:

Ah yeah, but how many former Ohio State band members are in a stadium rock band now?

Kerry players Barry-John Keane and Cormac Coffey visited the grave of former Kerins O’Rahilly’s clubmate and brave cancer victim Donal Walsh with the All-Ireland senior and minor titles this week:

It’s things like this that help the family in coming to terms with their loss. This young made a difference. A great thing to do. Well done GAA.

Puntastic from Darren Sweeney on Rory McIlroy’s decision to take a break from golf to prepare for his upcoming legal battle

Should have brought it to the Fore courts!
