Henry using his hands again? It must be time for comments of the week

Did your zinger make the cut this week?

IT’S BEEN A huge week of sport over the last seven days, and it all kicked off with some Premier League drama last Sunday, as Arsenal thumped Manchester United and Liverpool drew with Everton.

However, it proved to be the final straw for Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked following the game, and as the news broke on Sky Sports, Thierry Henry just didn’t know how to react, accidentally groping the unsuspecting Jamie Carragher.

Eddie Roche, however, has seen this all before…

“Henry with his hands again XD”

Speculation the turned to what Rodgers would get up to next?

Would he take a break from the game? Would he look for the first job available? Would he do a bit of TV work?

Sean McGoey things he should go into construction.

“I’ve a job for you brendan you will digging foundations for houses and dont worry if you mess up you can just say that you’re rebuilding and its a transitional phase.”

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that the club never had any intention of selling Thomas Muller to Manchester United in the summer.

Rummenigge said: “I told my colleagues at Manchester United: ‘I cannot close down my email account, but you no longer need to send me anything. It is useless.”

However, The42 reader Rob O’H has a theory as to why United were unsuccessful with their bids.

“Wouldn’t be surprised if Woodward still used his teenage Hotmail account.”

Of course, there was also the small matter of Ireland v Germany to get through this week. We decided to piece together what Ireland’s side would look like if it was decided purely on Fantasy Football points (because why not?).

And Fran Heavey spotted an added bonus to our patriotic selections.

“On the plus side, you’d have about 75m left in the bank!!!”
And after Ireland staged a remarkable victory over Ze Germans, Ciarán Burke came up with this gem, with a nod towards Roy Keane’s breastfeeding jokes earlier in the week.
“There won’t be a Robbie Keane milked tonight.”

And finally, as the fallout from England’s World Cup exit continued, it was revealed that Danny Cipriani and Mike Catt had a heated argument two days before the squad was selected, with Catt allegedly telling the player he’d end his England career.

They say a picture paints a thousand words, and that certainly seemed to be the case with our Sean Farrell’s choice of snaps.

Kevin McNally noticed: “Looks like Cipriani is being led off in cuffs in that photo”
As did Shane Barrett:And Catt absolutely nails the Serial Killer look in the next one.

The man talks a lot of sense. People started playing GAA to play the sport not to train for 11 months and play only a handful of games. GAA needs to full address the fixture issue and to bring in a closed season.

There is a closed season Johnny, except it’s for inter-county teams.

The GAA needs to tighten up the inter-county championship season. How does it take almost 5 months to play a hurling championship in which there are realistically (and I use the term loosely) 8 potential winners? Start it in May and have it finished in August at the absolute latest (I think it could easily be played out in 3 months but let’s not get too drastic here).

    League: Feb – Apr.
    Champ: May – Aug.
Club: Aug – Nov when All-Ireland club champs take place.
3rd level: played through the winter as usual

Yes. Clubs should play during the championship.Must be frustrating for non county players to sit on their hands when the weather is good and conducive for good games.

Every year people talk about what a shame it is to have the provincial club championships on in November/ December in terrible playing conditions, pitches, weather etc. Barring a radical change in the county season however, there is no alternative time to play them. Thus, moving the all- ireland series to December would result in the best club teams in the country having to play in the worst possible conditions, reducing the quality of the games and the standards of the competition.

could be finished sooner. championship in cork county can be held up for weeks an weeks if a team you are due to play has an intercounty player, even if they are a panel member an not likely to even play. season is far too long, you need time for family, work, partner, kids etc.
