A legend of Gaelic Football returned for Kerry today as they avoided relegation

Fans have been waiting a long time to see Colm Cooper back in the green and gold.

THE RICH GOT a bit richer today as Eamonn Fitzmaurice was able to add legends Paul Galvin and Colm Cooper to his All-Ireland winning squad.

Cooper hadn’t featured for Kerry since the All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Dublin in 2013 while Galvin stepped away from the panel during last year’s national league.

Their return was timely for Kerry as the team travelled to Omagh today to face Tyrone in a massive Division One clash.

Had Kerry lost by two points or more they would have been relegated, but a 1-14 to 0-17 draw saw the home side drop down to Division 2 instead.

Cooper played the last ten minutes for Kerry but Fitzmaurice opted to leave Galvin on the bench.

The Gooch suffered a knee injury playing for Dr Crokes against Castlebar Mitchels last year in the All-Ireland club championship semi-final and although he was on the Kerry bench in September’s All-Ireland football final against Donegal, he was unused.

What chance does the rest of the country have if Kerry can add Cooper, Galvin and Tommy Walsh to a team that just won the All-Ireland?
