Tipperary teen footballer in 'good spirits' following worrying neck injury against Sligo

Over 92 minutes were played in Tipp v Sligo yesterday.

THERE WAS POSITIVE news from the Tipperary football camp last night as a CT scan on Colin O’Riordan’s spine showed up clear.

O’Riordan, 19, was stretchered off during Tipp’s 0-15 to 0-13 victory over Sligo in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League.

O’Riordan fell to the ground clutching his head following Ross Donovan’s tackle which saw the Sligo corner back booked – and over 92 minutes were played before the game concluded.

A neck injury was later diagnosed for O’Riordan and sources indicated last night that while the JK Brackens man suffered concussion, he was in “good spirits.”

Tipp senior manager Peter Creedon indicated yesterday that if concussion was diagnosed, O’Riordan may miss out on Tipp’s EirGrid Munster U21 football final against Cork on Thursday 9 April.

Meanwhile, Kieran Bergin will miss the remainder of Tipperary’s Allianz Hurling League campaign after it was confirmed last night that he sustained ankle ligament damage against Offaly in Tullamore yesterday.

Scans confirmed no break but the Killenaule man damaged lateral ligaments and is facing 4-6 weeks on the sidelines.

Bergin, 29, had scored three points before he was stretchered off during the second half of Tipperary’s 1-16 to 0-13 victory over the Faithful County.

Premier County top brass may also consider an appeal after ace forward Seamus Callanan was sent off following an off-the-ball clash with Dermot Shortt.

A leading official said last night: “That will be for team management to decide.”
