To commemorate this year’s London Olympic and Paralympic Games, they have produced 29 different types of limited edition 50p coins which celebrate sports from aquatics right through to wrestling.
They began a public competition three years ago and had nearly 30,000 entrants, which were whittled down to the final designs.
Sports journalist Neil Wolfson was successful with his simple diagram of football’s most frequently-debated law and he feels it encapsulates the beautiful game.

“I’m a football fan myself,” said Wolfson on The Royal Mint’s website.
“When it goes into circulation I hope that people use it to explain the rule and that it provokes discussion.”
