South African Number 8 CJ Stander is arriving in Munster today

The 22-year-old has a year of Super Rugby experience with the Bulls under his belt.

MUNSTER HAVE CALLED up the cavalry and are getting Bull.

CJ Stander set off from his native South Africa this morning and is due to arrive in Cork later this evening.

Stander, 22, is a three-season veteran with Vodacom Blue Bulls in the national Currie Cup competition and made his Super Rugby for the Bulls, against the Sharks, this season.

He played 16 Super Rugby games for his side and scored four tries in the process. The Bulls reached the first qualifying round of the premier southern hemisphere tournamenr before they were eliminated by Richie McCaw’s Crusaders.

The arrival of Stander, who can play across the back row but prefers to start at Number 8, will boost a Munster pack that will lose five forwards to international duty in November.

Before he boarded his flight to Ireland, Stander tweeted:

The news certainly cheered up Munster back Johne Murphy:

According to Munster Rugby, Stander ended his commitment to the Blue Bulls in the semi-final of the Currie Cup when they were beaten by the Sharks 20-3 at King’s Park Stadium in Durban a fortnight ago.

Munster’s next two Pro12 games are against Welsh opposition. They play Cardiff away this Friday and Scarlets at home on 25 November.

Stander is expected to meet up with his new teammates at the University of Limerick training facilities tomorrow.

Munster supporters will be hoping to see plenty of hard-hitting runs like this one (below) against the Lions this season.
