Cited: O'Driscoll to face disciplinary hearing after stamp in Rome

A ban could lay in wait for the former captain after his sin-bin during the loss to Italy.

LEGENDARY IRISH CENTRE Brian O’Driscoll has been cited in the wake of Ireland’s 22-15 Six Nations loss to Italy.

The Leinster number 13 was sin-binned in the first half of his 125th international appearance, having planted a book on the midriff of Simone Favaro.

No date or venue for the former Ireland captain’s hearing has yet been announced.

Cian Healy, who was also cited under Law 10.4 (b) during the Six Nations, received a three-week suspension for stamping on the ankle of Dan Cole last month.

Unlike Healy, O’Driscoll’s show of frustration was caught by the officials present and he was awarded a yellow card. And his long, near-exemplary, record may well influence the disciplinary committee to show more lenience than that afforded to his provincial team-mate.

Leinster face Glasgow Warriors this Saturday before hosting Ulster on March 3. On April 5, they travel to face London Wasps in the quarter final of the Amlin Challenge Cup, a fixture which seems O’Driscoll’s most likely next appearance.
