Cillian Farrell resigns as Meath hurling manager

The news comes in the wake of his side’s 0-23 to 1-10 defeat by Down.

CILLIAN FARRELL HAS stepped down from his post as Meath senior hurling manager, it has been confirmed.

The news comes in the wake of his side’s 0-23 to 1-10 defeat by Down in the Christy Ring Cup semi-final replay yesterday.

In a statement, Farrell explained why he believed his position had become untenable.

“I was initially appointed for two years and the lads had asked me to stay on for a third, but I have been under pressure this year,” he said.

“I have enjoyed it thoroughly, I had a great group of lads to work with, but I’m back in college part-time and I’m under pressure, and I think maybe it’s time for a fresh voice as well for the lads.”

Farrell’s side had reached the Division 2B Allianz League final earlier this year, before enduring a disappointing loss against London.
