Cian O'Connor leads Ireland to showjumping glory in Florida

Conor Swail (Down), Shane Sweetnam (Cork) and Richie Moloney (Kilkenny) were also part of the victorious Irish side.

CIAN O’CONNOR LED Ireland to a win in the Nations Cup this morning.

Meath-based O’Connor, who was last up, produced a double clear round to seal Ireland’s victory in today’s event in Wellington, Florida.

Conor Swail (Down), Shane Sweetnam (Cork) and Richie Moloney (Kilkenny) were also part of the victorious Irish side, with the USA second and Colombia third.

Irish Show Jumping manager Robert Splaine expressed his delight following today’s result.

“This was an absolutely fantastic job by four very professional riders,” he said. “They all played their part, jumping at least one clear round each and Cian (O’Connor) jumping a double clear.

“Richie’s (Moloney) comeback in the second round was phenomenal and really put it up to the USA. It really was a fantastic win and very positive for the future. I would like to congratulate our four riders and a big thank you must go to the owners of our horses.”
