Kerry the big winners as Christy Ring Cup get under way

Four goals for the home side to kick-start their 2014 campaign.

KERRY HAD 32 points to spare over Derry in round one of the Christy Ring Cup today.

In a one-sided game in Austin Stack Park, Tralee, Kerry led by 2-18 to no score at half-time, goals from Shane Nolan and Colm Harty giving the home side a virtually unassailable lead.

Shane Farren eventually scored Derry’s first point in the 37th minute but two further goals from Daniel Collins and Padraig Boyle wrapped up the easiest of wins for Kerry.

Elsewhere, Kildare and Wicklow will go to a replay after extra-time failed to seperate the two sides in Newbridge while Meath and Mayo had victories over Down and Armagh respectively.

In the Nicky Rackard Cup there were wins for Roscommon, Tyrone and Fingal while the Lory Meagher Cup got under way with a loss to Fermanagh for defending champions Warickshire while last year’s beaten finalists Longford had three points to spare over Leitrim.
