SINCE YOU WILL likely spend a good chunk of the Christmas weekend plopped on the couch while suffering from an intense food coma, you will need some quality televisual entertainment to keep you in touch with the real world.
And while Mrs Brown’s Boys might pass as fun viewing for some, at The42 we decided to focus on all the great sporting action on what should be a great long weekend with Christmas Day falling on a Friday.
Football
Stephen’s Day Premier League action is one of the most enjoyable parts of the festive period and we’ve been given a couple of enticing fixtures for the day after Christmas.
Stoke host Manchester United on Sky at 12.45pm while Leicester will travel to Liverpool to take on Jurgen Klopp’s men at 3pm on Setanta Sports in what could be a crucial clash.
If that isn’t enough, BT Sport will show Newcastle v Everton at 5.30pm and Southampton v Arsenal at 7.45pm.
Rugby
Inter-pros galore! December 26 sees Connacht host Ulster in a game (18.00 on TG4/BBC NI) you would think the westerners must win to cement their Champions Cup qualification place.
The following day sees Irish club rugby’s biggest rivalry get renewed at Thomond Park as Leinster travel to Limerick to face Munster at 17.15 on Sky and TG4.
Horse Racing
All eyes will be on Leopardstown from Stephen’s Day on as the racing starts on RTÉ.
Every year Irish racing fans are treated to a sublime feast from the sport of kings but there is something extra special about the action on the day after Christmas.
Basketball
If you are an NBA fan then you probably know about the Golden State Warriors’ absurd start to this season.
Christmas Day sees them take on Lebron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers in a rematch of last year’s NBA finals. Not bad viewing for after your Christmas dinner.
NFL
There is a full slate of NFL games on Sunday December 27 with Arizona v Green Bay at 9.25pm probably the pick of the contests.
What are you looking forward to watching this Christmas?
The darts on sky sports, best entertainment over Christmas
Van gerwans facial expressions are brilliant. Hope Taylor loses in a final to him if its possible lol
Ya darts is a very underrated sport
I agree. The WDC is brilliant so far this year.
No mention of the darts…..sure it’s only the world championship.
Darts? A sport?
Cos it’s not a sport it’s a pub game that is shown on a sports chanel
Ye can’t play it then I take it
Why go to the effort of writing this if you’re only gonna half do it ?? Times for just 3 out of the 5 sports listed …
Why show pic of spurs v arsenal match if it’s not on the telly over the Christmas?
Spurs to finish 3rd this year. Arsenal hopefully win.
Spurs to finish 3rd would be a dream but if those crowd finish 1st it will leave a slightly sour taste!

San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders Christmas Day at 1:25am. Should be good one. For those of us whose kids wake up early to see what Santa brought.
