Christian Eriksen set for Tottenham switch

Daniel Levy has a wedge of cash burning a hole in his pockets.

TOTTENHAM ARE CLOSE to sealing the signature of Christian Eriksen, after agreeing a deal with Ajax for the Denmark playmaker.

The Premier League club have been active in the transfer market so far, signing Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Paulinho and Etienne Capoue, also agreeing a deal with Roma for Argentina international Erik Lamela.

Their expenditure is likely to be off-set by the departure of Gareth Bale, who is expected to complete a world-record move to Real Madrid. Eriksen had previously been linked to Liverpool and UEFA Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund, but he is now on the brink of a switch to White Hart Lane, upon the passing of a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars confirmed that a deal had been struck for Eriksen, but retains hope of keeping the player — whose contract expires at the end of the season.

“Yes, (Spurs chairman, Daniel) Levy was here and Eriksen has been given permission to speak to Tottenham,” Overmars told De Telegraaf.

“There is no agreement yet until it’s signed. Obviously, if it happens, we won’t be happy at all to lose him but he only has a year left on his contract.”
