6 Nations update: Henry out for a month, O'Donnell and Madigan called up

The Ulster flanker will need surgery on a knee injury sustained last Friday night.

CHRIS HENRY IS set to miss out on the remainder of the Six Nations tournament due to a knee problem.

The Ireland flanker up the injury during Ulster’s RaboDirect Pro12 win over Zebre and scans have revealed that he has cartilage tear which will require surgery – meaning he will spend around four weeks on the sidelines.

A brief statement released by the IRFU today reads: “Following an MRI scan today, it was confirmed to the Ireland medical team that back row Chris Henry suffered a cartilage tear to his right knee while playing last Friday.”

Declan has addeed Munster back row Tommy O’Donnell and Leinster’s Ian Madigan to then 30-strong squad ahead of this weekend’s trip to Scotland, while Connacht centre Dave McSharry is out with a groin injury.

The Ireland squad is as follows: Rory Best, Darren Cave, Tom Court, Sean Cronin, James Coughlan, Keith Earls, Luke Fitzgerald, Declan Fitzpatrick, Craig Gilroy, Robin Henshaw, Jamie Heaslip, Iain Henderson, Paddy Jackson, Rob Kearney, David Kilcoyne, Ian Madigan, Luke Marshall, Fergus McFadden, Conor Murray, Sean O’Brien, Donncha O’Callaghan, Tommy O’Donnell, Brian O’Driscoll, Ronan O’Gara, Peter O’Mahony, Eoin Reddan, Mike Ross, Donnacha Ryan, Lewis Stevenson, Devin Toner.
