The 26-year-old midfielder, who is in his fourth season with the club, was out of contract in the summer, but has been a prominent feature this year with 21 league appearances as Hull attempt to make a return to the Premier League.

On this day 14 years ago, Diego Forlan joined Man United from Independiente for £6.9 million (€9.1 million).

Forlan went on to have an inconsistent spell with Man United, scoring 17 goals in 63 appearances, but the Uruguayan striker did help the Red Devils win the Premier League in 2003 and the FA Cup in 2004.

After leaving United in 2004, he went on to enjoy a more than decent career, scoring regularly for clubs including Villareal and Atletico Madrid, as well as appearing in three World Cups and earning over 100 caps for Uruguay.

At 36, he is still playing with Peñarol, and recently hinted he would be open to continuing his career in the MLS.
